Check out this Christmas “Wreath Witherspoon” that celebrates the best of Reese’s book club in a hilariously festive way.
What is a Wreath Witherspoon?
What is a Wreath Witherspoon?
Wreath Witherspoon was first referenced on Mindy Kaling’s show The Mindy Project in 2014. Season 3, Episode 11 (“Christmas”) showed a wreath decorated with photos of actress Reese Witherspoon. Mindy refers to it, in a pun on words, as a “Wreath Witherspoon.”
The internet (including me, a pun-loving person on the internet), fell in love with this pun and began creating and sharing their own Wreath Witherspoons each holiday season.
I’ve even seen Kaling and Witherspoon (who are friends in real life) get in on the fun and re-share the pun each Christmas.
How to Make a Wreath Witherspoon
A longtime fan of both actresses, I’ve upgraded my own Wreath Witherspoon this year by adding to my collection of book ornaments. (Yes, I’ve made several over the years.)
As a book lover, I always like to focus on the books selected in her popular book club, many of which I have read over the years. Here’s what I used in my very literary Wreath Witherspoon.
SHOP THE POST
This year, I got a new wreath from Target and custom book ornaments from Etsy bearing my top 12 favorite reads from Reese Witherspoon’s book club. I also grabbed some red buffalo plaid holiday ribbon I already owned.
My Wreath Witherspoon now decorates my home office, where I write about books every day! It’s such a fun idea for a Christmas theme.
Lastly, if you’re curious about the amazing Reese’s book club books I selected for my Wreath Witherspoon, they include:
Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid: an excellent rockumentary style book (AND) Hulu adaptation
From Scratch by Tembi Locke: a tearjerking memoir and Netflix adaptation
The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine: a satisfying thriller that’s popular with readers of The Literary Lifestyle
The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave: my favorite book of 2021 and a suspenseful AppleTV+ adaptation
The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo: another tearjerker that made me sob
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng: a bestselling family drama and Hulu adaptation starring Reese!
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah: a beloved World War II novel about sisters and survival
One Day In December by Josie Silver: a bestselling holiday romance novel that’s popular each holiday season
This is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel: a reader-favorite LGBTQ+ parenting drama
Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed: a stunning collection of advice columns and a Hulu adaptation
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett: my favorite book of 2023
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens: a mega-bestseller and movie adaptation
I hope you enjoyed celebrating the holidays through my bookish Wreath Witherspoon dedicated to Reese’s book club and/or feel inspired to create your own. If you plan on reading some of the book club selections I highlighted, I most highly recommend One Day In December by Josie Silver since it’s a bestselling holiday romance novel that’s popular each and every holiday season and you read alongside your punny and festive wreath.
