WordPress automatically begins a new blog’s first post with that title, and I found it so fitting that I kept it as the first words I am writing. So, this is my new book blog. Welcome! Here is the who, what, where, when and why for everything you need to know about it:
What is the blog about?
The tagline of this blog is “where books meet lifestyle.” I’m an avid reader, on track to read 100+ books this year, and one of my favorite things about books is how they can inspire your lifestyle, from such things as travel to cuisine. My goal is to focus primarily on posting “book pairings” of a book along with something inspired by that book. For example, I will post some of my favorite places and tips from my Italian honeymoon along with a book I loved that was set in Italy. I think of it as being like Reading Rainbow for women (child of the 80’s here). Or, I may review a book and then give a recommendation for a similar book to read. I will also definitely share my favorite book deals, for which I am always on the hunt. My goal is to serve busy women who are looking to make each day even a little bit better, more fun and more meaningful in all facets of life, primarily by reading more, which I see as the basis for any kind of positive growth or change.
Who are you?
My married name is Julianne Buonocore, and I wanted to keep the name of this blog simple and personal, so I used the shortened versions of my first name, Julianne, and my married last name, Buonocore, combined as Jules Buono. Since most of the people reading my first post will be people who already know me, if you would like to know more, check out my About page for some fun facts.
When will you be posting on your blog?
As much as my free time and creative energy allow, as I already have a full-time job as an attorney in Philadelphia during the day. That being said, I do have a lot of books and topics I want to discuss on the blog, and I am committed to getting them out there, despite my time constraints and very real personal fears of having a more open online persona. Even if I can’t post a blog post, I will try to regularly keep my social media updated with book reviews, recommendations, deals and such. I also want to focus on recommending internet articles I find that make an impact on current events.
Why did you start this blog?
I put a lot of thought into this. A few reasons…
1 – A creative outlet. After a year of meticulously planning my wedding and Italian honeymoon, I yearned for a creative outlet. Reading and writing have always been my go-to’s to relieve stress, and I also love practicing photography and the simple joy of recommending great books to others — it’s like giving a great gift. It seemed natural for this blog to be my creative outlet.
2 – An act of service. One look at the news and so many things immediately feel insurmountable and out of my control. One person can’t fix it all, but what I have learned is that we can each start with changing ourselves in big or small ways, and then we can each use our best personal skills to better those around us, whether it be running for office, coaching a sport or planting a community garden. For me, I am willing and able to promote the value of reading, as I believe that its benefits of such things as more empathy and knowledge can change the world in both small and big ways. Having this service element in mind really keeps me motivated because this book blog is already a lot of work!
3 – To “do better things” in my free time. While I find tv and social media to have their values, I have also become sick of the time suck of mindlessly scrolling through feeds after the first few minutes of keeping up with my friends and things that really matter to me. I also wanted to distract myself from guilty pleasure tv and online shopping when I am bored or need a few minutes of relaxation. First, I started reading more instead, and now I’m taking it a step further by blogging about it.
4- To organize information. I store a lot of information. I am writing this post from a note-taking app where I currently have 1,800+ notes saved, including about 50 book reviews I wrote just for the fun of it (book nerd alert). I keep notes on everything I read and research so I can refer back to it easily, and I also curate, create and organize an abundance of recipes. I would love to be able to better organize these notes for myself and share the wealth with others at the same time.
5- To learn new skills. I love learning, so I like the fact that blogging gives me a host of skills to hone from writing and photography to tech and marketing. It’s really a jack-of-all-trades kind of hobby.
Where can I follow your book blog?
Now for the fun part. You can always follow the blog. You can also follow me on these social media channels:
GoodReads (@JulesBuono)- social media for bookworms! I post and engage only about bookish things (like reviews). If you are a book lover, this is the best place to track your reading and get recommendations, and I’m always trying to give you the best of books there. Feel free to add me as a friend — it’s the kind of place where you can do that.
Pinterest (@JulesBuono) – I adore Pinterest and have spent years curating and organizing the best of all of the bookish things, preppy lifestyle and vegan recipes. If you want bookish things with a bit more lifestyle than books, follow me there.
Twitter (@jules_buono) – This is where I tweet and retweet the best worthwhile reads I find on the internet, from current events to women’s rights, business, legal issues, lifestyle and bookish things (of course). Following me there is a great way to quickly stay on top of what’s relevant and thought-provoking in the world right now, which I find just as important as reading books.
Instagram (@bookish_jules) – Since Instagram is currently the place where people are really engaged, I am going to keep it updated with pretty bookish pictures and quotes, day-to-day kind of stuff in stories and have dialogues with other Bookstagrammers.
I will share blog posts on all of the above social media!
That’s all, folks. Thanks for reading about my new book blog. Hope you found one or more channels on which to follow it, and hope to engage soon on all of the bookish things!
