5 Best Button Up Corduroy Skirt Outfit Ideas for Fall

Share this post:

Corduroy skirts are one of the best style items for Fall, and if you’re wondering what you should wear with them, below are several stylish women’s button-up corduroy skirt outfit ideas because you will want to get some mileage out of this modern yet classic piece.

Despite being so on-trend, corduroy skirts have a vintage 1970s feel — as if they came straight out of The Mary Tyler Moore Show or the movie Love Story. This makes them a worthwhile wardrobe investment for your classic Fall style capsule wardrobe.

I was inspired to write this post by one of my favorite books, Classic Style by Kate Schelter, which has informed my own style with its honest prose and beautiful watercolor drawings, reminding us all that classic never goes out of style.

If you don’t already have a beige button-up corduroy skirt, though, here is a great option from J.Crew Factory:

What to Wear With a Button Up Corduroy Skirt

A chambray blouse, cable knit sweater, and brown knee-high boots

This pairing has been one of the most popular ones with readers of The Literary Lifestyle over the past several years — I think because it resembles the infamous Rory Gilmore sweater from Gilmore Girls. For that reason, it’s also my suggested outfit for the most Fall holiday of all — Thanksgiving.

A simple chambray blouse can be purchased at J. Crew Factory, my go-to for closet staples. And L.L. Bean always carries the best cable-knit sweaters to layer this look.

This year, knee-high boots with heels are trending, and these waterproof Blondo boots from Nordstrom are on my personal wish list.

Black sweater and black boots

You simply cannot go wrong by pairing your corduroy skirt with a black sweater and black boots.

Each and every Fall, I trust  Gap for their washable merino wool sweaters. An oversized shaker stitch sweater could also work for a less polished and cozier look.

As for footwear, I wear these exact black booties by Chinese Laundry to complete the look.

Striped sweater or top in Fall or neutral tones

Stripes are the most versatile pattern for any season, but I think the trick to wearing stripes with a beige corduroy skirt is to maintain a Fall-inspired overall look so that the stripes don’t overpower the corduroy. The Everlane Breton tee is the perfect example of what works well.

Denim jacket

A denim jacket gives a classically casual feel to a corduroy skirt. This year, more oversized denim jackets are trending. I personally always trust Gap for a timeless denim jacket, but this J.Crew Factory classic denim jacket also works well. You can pair it with booties, boots, flats, clogs, or even canvas sneakers, depending on how casual you want to look.

Fair isle sweater

I’m slightly obsessed with fair isle. It reminds me of Home Alone and all things cozy and classic. And it pairs perfectly with a button-up corduroy skirt for a preppy, New England look. L.L. Bean ALWAYS has great options, but I have linked a few additional styles below as well.
