American author Anne Rice died in December 2021 at the age of 80 after a stroke. Originally from New Orleans, she has a Master of Arts Degree in English and Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.
She is a famous book writer who authored over thirty novels and was one of the world’s most esteemed writers of supernatural fiction involving vampires, witches, and mummies. Her most popular book was her 1976 debut book, Interview with the Vampire, which was adapted into a popular movie in 1994.

She was named after her father because her mother thought this would help her to get farther ahead in life, but she called herself Anne and later changed her name legally. Love the breakdown. I know I am missing The last couple of vampire chronicle books to read. My wife and I are currently rereading all of the Vampire Chronicles & buying the couple that we need in hard copies. Memnoch & Pandora are still my favorites.
I live outside of New Orleans and shortly after Anne passed, I took my old ‘Interview’ book, drove into town, and read a chapter in Lafayette cemetery in the Garden District, where she would actually sit and write interview with the vampire. Something I’ve always wanted to do for years and just haven’t. By far the best cemetery to visit in town for anyone who does so. Was a pretty intense, bucket list type feeling sitting there, reading interview. Honored to have lived in New Orleans, & have been around many neighbourhoods and haunts that Anne would write about In our novels.

Wow! I first read The Witching Hour in 1991!!! A friend gave me a very thick well used paperback copy of The Witching Hour! We were both in Nursing School and no time to read a book that thick. I was sucked in by the end of chapter 1. I could have failed nursing school because of Annie Rice. I fell in love with her stories and her descriptions of NOLA. I walked the garden district pre-Katrina looking for landmarks from Mayfair series and Vampire series! I found the house where deidre sat on the porch. My husband thought I was NUT. I love this list. I don’t think I have read anything published after 2008. Shamefully, I believe I started reading Twilight., sharing a book with my then high school senior daughter. My daughter has read all of the Mayfair and Vampire series. She has all my books (no paperbacks)!! Not sure about the Beauty series though…I think I hid those. LOL. I can’t wait to tell her there are more. books I kinda forgot about all her books until I read your list. (I was searching for the names in the Mayfair series). Very sad to hear of her passing. Hopefully, the new series will introduce Anni Rice to a new generation of fans. 🙂
