But first, below is a quick summary of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (WITH SPOILERS):

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second novel in the Harry Potter set of books by J.K. Rowling. During a miserable Summer at home with his extended family, Dobby the elf visits Harry and warns him not to return to Hogwarts. However, Ron Weasley carries Harry away in a flying car to finish out the Summer together.

As Ron's sister, Ginny, becomes a Gryffindor, strange things start happening at Hogwarts, and rumors circle that the heir of Slytherin has returned to Hogwarts to cleanse it of those who are not pureblood by opening the Chamber of Secrets to release a deadly monster.

An old journal shows Harry that Hagrid was suspected of opening the Chamber of Secrets fifty years ago and was expelled. When Harry and Ron ask Hagrid about it, he is arrested, and Dumbledore must step down as headmaster.

However, Hagrid leads Ron and Harry to the Forbidden Forest, where they meet Hagrid's spider, Aragog, who was wrongly accused of being the monster from the chamber. Aragog tells them that, while a student died, it was not his or Hagrid’s fault.

Hermione becomes petrified, along with several other petrified students (and a cat), and Harry and Ron see that she is holding a page on which she has written the words "pipes." Harry figures out that the monster must be using the plumbing to move around, and that the student who died must be Moaning Myrtle, a ghost that lives in one of the girls’ bathrooms.

As Harry and Ron eavesdrop on the teachers, they learn that Ginny has been taken into the Chamber of Secrets. They enlist the help of their new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Gilderoy Lockhart, but he turns out to be a coward and a fraud. Part of the cave collapses, separating Harry from Ron and Lockhart.

Harry enters the Chamber of Secrets, where he learns that Ginny mistakenly brought to life a part of Voldemort’s spirit. Voldemort, formerly known as Tom Riddle, sets the monster, a basilisk, on Harry. Luckily, Dumbledore’s phoenix, Fawkes, blinds the basilisk. Harry then destroys it with the sword of Gryffindor and uses one of its fangs to destroy the journal (and Voldemort). Thus, Ginny is saved.

Fawkes heals Harry with his tears and flies the group out of the Chamber of Secrets. Dumbledore and Hagrid return to Hogwarts, and the petrified students (and cat) are restored to life.
